Familiari-tie?

Groom Paul @ 22:07

As previously mentioned, the woman who designs Jon Snow’s ties is currently working on one for me to wear to our wedding - hurrah!

When she saw the colours, she actually said she liked them all, even the yellow (which has been something of a controversial choice with no-one except me actually wanting to wear anything in it ;)).

Small portion of Jon Snow's tie from tonight's Channel 4 News - click for full pictureWatching tonight’s Channel 4 News, I couldn’t help but notice the rather nice tie Mr. Snow was sporting this evening. As you can see in the snippet on the right, the colours are rather similar to our wedding colours - purple, light blue, silver and indeed yellow.

So either she liked our colours because she had already used them herself before, or it’s just within the realm of possibility that he had an early prototype of my tie! Who knows which? Actually, the tie designer probably knows which. Perhaps I’ll ask.

Choose our music!

Groom Paul @ 20:58

If music be the food of love, we’d better have some at the wedding, really.

Now, we’re not about to hire a cheesy disco DJ with huge speakers and flashing lights to ensure that any attempts to converse with our friends and relatives are made significantly more difficult because our ears are saturated with the pumping sounds of popular dance music rather than each other’s voices.

Instead, we plan to hook up the shiny new home-built laptop on which I am writing this - from the comfort of an armchair while watching 44 dwarves competing with an African elephant in an aeroplane-pulling competition on ITV2 - to the background music sound system in the wedding reception venue, in order to pipe an eclectic mixture of fine tunes around the room at an enjoyable yet unobtrusive level.

(Keep reading: at some point, I might write a paragraph containing more than one sentence.)

Now, here’s where you come in: we’d like as many of our guests as can be bothered to use the Comments feature at the end of this post to send us a message in which you suggest one or more tracks you would like to hear at the wedding - either in the ceremony itself or at the reception. Feel free to explain your choice(s), although this is not compulsory.

We can’t promise to accommodate all suggestions, but we will at least consider every one. We may also be able to stretch to some kind of prize for the best suggestion (explanations may help your chances of winning of course!).

So, please get the suggestions coming in, so we can start planning our playlists!

[comments have now been closed on this post as we keep getting spam on it, for some reason]

A shoe-string budget

Bride Edith @ 22:05

Well, good old Clarks have done us proud, as we’ve both bought wedding shoes from them over the last couple of days. I went to Bluewater to choose my shoes - I deliberately wore a hooded top just because I heard in the news they’d been banned, although it turns out that story’s been a bit exaggerated.

Aaanyway, I digress. After a couple of tedious hours hunting, I found the right shoes. They’re blue, sparkly and strappy, and have a high(ish) heel, which is rather out of character for me and will require several hours of walking practice before the day itself ;) Those of you who know Paul well will be amazed that he’s bought different shoes at all, since he takes pride in only having one pair at a time (the one disadvantage, apparently, is that when they break you have to wear the broken shoes to the shoe shop to buy new ones). As Clarks had 25% off everything (bargain), that persuaded him to actually go for it rather than polishing the usual pair the night before.

The next stage is for me to go and get my dress altered, now we can actually see how long it needs to be. Hopefully, I’ll be doing this on Wednesday, so will report back then, along with one or two updates on other parts of the planning.

Is this a suit-able tie-tle?

Groom Paul @ 20:02

This dlog has, I know, been very quiet lately. There’s a simple reason for this: we’ve done almost nothing towards the wedding since April.

Fortunately, after a full 31 days without any updates, this has now started to change.

Today I went to Anthony Formalwear in Billericay, to follow up our previous visit. This time, I was measured up for the suit, by a General Manager who proposed a nip here, a tuck there and various other tweaks to their bog-standard clothes’ shape to suit my figure better. Marvellous. Then he asked for a deposit, and I rejected my initial - hilarious - thought of giving him some limescale, instead giving him permission to debit my credit card account.

The suit will be ready in six to seven weeks’ time, apparently, so you can certainly expect another update then. Hopefully there’ll be a lot more before then, too.

Meanwhile, thanks to the Channel 4 web site’s comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions section, I have been in touch with the very woman who designs Jon Snow’s fantastic ties, as worn on Channel 4 News each weeknight. Samples of our various wedding colours are now trudging their way to her through the post, and once she’s received those she can get to work on what will clearly be the most attractive tie she has ever produced: purple, yellow, cornflower blue and silver is definitely going to take some beating, isn’t it?

Interestingly, although she’s always happy to produce custom-coloured ties to order, she has to run them off in batches of 16, so she will have 15 of these for sale to others before long. So, zoolyweds fans everywhere: get yours while stocks last.

So all that’s left for me to choose now is a shirt and perhaps some shoes, but they’ll both wait until the suit is ready. Edith’s shoes, on the other hand, need choosing before she can get her dress adjusted, so expect a post on that front before too long. Or at least before 31 days’ time.
