Epic wedding diary, part 1

I’ve been looking forward to writing all about the wedding day, but at the same time put off by the epic nature of doing so. I’ve decided to try writing it as stream-of-consciousness with headings and see if that works. This post covers only waking up to getting on the coach to the zoo. Too much detail, perhaps? :) Waking up. God it’s early – 6.30am, but excitement means we manage to get up by 6.45am as planned. Paul knocks […]

No longer speech-less

Oh dear, I appear to have caught the pun-based headline bug from Paul! I have been very quiet on here lately, but that’s because I’ve been busy, not because I’ve had nothing to say! My stress levels are receding as my to-do list shrinks: the greatest relief for me is that after weeks, nay months, of procrastination, I’ve finally written my speech. When you hear it you’ll wonder why on earth I avoided writing it for so long, as it’ll […]

Myriad plans

Lots of progress has been made on my aforementioned list of things to do. For example, I ordered my Yexley Designs tiara, which arrived safely last week. I shan’t give a description on here beyond saying that it’s silver and sparkly! We’ve also ordered our flowers (bouquet and some buttonholes) from Four Seasons Flowers of Crayford (no web presence), following good advice from Rosy and the florist when choosing blooms and colours. You can tell I’m trying not to give […]

Minor adjustments

Hello all, and sorry for not posting here for such a long time! I have been keeping busy with wedding preparations, but until recently there’s been little to show for my efforts. Firstly, I would highly recommend Your Wedding, Your Way by Sophie Vincenzi if there’s anyone out there planning to get hitched. I got it from my local library recently, and it’s proving extremely useful (and not as scary and bridezilla-like as the title would have you think!) Thanks […]

A shoe-string budget

Well, good old Clarks have done us proud, as we’ve both bought wedding shoes from them over the last couple of days. I went to Bluewater to choose my shoes – I deliberately wore a hooded top just because I heard in the news they’d been banned, although it turns out that story’s been a bit exaggerated. Aaanyway, I digress. After a couple of tedious hours hunting, I found the right shoes. They’re blue, sparkly and strappy, and have a […]

Bridesmaids suited up

I’m pleased to say that the Aberdeen shopping trip was a resounding success. The arrangements ended up being slightly odd, thanks to problems with both Next and H&M, our two preferred suit suppliers. Next were utterly incompetent – we rang the shop’s number, and ended up talking to someone in a call centre who assured us that the shop didn’t stock the suits we were after, but we could order them using a credit card and pick it up from […]

Suitable suits for bridesmaids

On Sunday, we came one step closer to getting the bridesmaids kitted out for the wedding, when Rosy, Paul and I went window-shopping in Oxford Street for suitable (hoho!) suits and tops. I don’t tend to do much clothes shopping and was surprised by how tiring it was, but it was all worthwhile as we came away from the experience with a good idea of what’s available, a shortlist of suits and an even shorter list of tops. Paul also […]

Food and drink

This Friday, we’re meeting a catering person at the zoo to start arranging food and drink for the wedding. We’re bringing Paul’s mum along to help us, since we’re novices at this event organising thing. I’m posting about this because we’ve decided to delay sending the invitations slightly to allow for this meeting – originally we were going to post them today, so they’d mostly arrive on Thursday (exactly six months before the wedding), but it seems silly to print […]

Bridesmaids and best men

In a quest for co-ordinating clothing for the wedding party, we’ve arranged a couple of shopping days with the bridesmaids and best men in late March and early April. The best men day was harder to organise than you’d imagine, as one best man is only in the UK for a few weeks between now and the wedding, and the other is a newly-qualified doctor and therefore works silly numbers of hours. The bridesmaids day was also challenging, as it […]

Menus and the dress (again)

The dress has landed. :) I’m very pleased with the colour, as I had been worried it would be too dark. It doesn’t look great on me at the moment, as it doesn’t fit me too well so needs some alterations, and it’s also creased from being packed in a box, but hopefully it’ll all be fine by September! Plans for the reception are vague (to say the least) at this stage, but we took the first step today by […]
